The future of this community...

So, folks. What does everyone want to do with this dead community?

My personal vote is that we use it as a group writing journal. I could put paid time here, and everyone could just post their weekly/monthly/yearly writing. Of any kind. Just a place to...store it and make it pretty.

Or we could try to keep going with the contest idea.

Or...we could just dissolve the community entirely, and have it sit around for a while.

Thoughts, anyone?

Weekly Challenge: Serenade Me
May 15th, 2005 - May 30th, 2005

The community has about seven members, which should be enough for the first challenge. You have ten days to do it, which should be a reasonable amount. Any word count, any rating, any setting. I'll write up the rules for submitting stories in a bit.

As for the challenge itself...

The theme is music. Your mission (should you choose to accept it) is to write a romance which is only consummated due to the influence of music. The consummation can be of any sort (try to keep it reasonably tasteful, if you're going the sex-scene route), and the romance can be one-, two-, or many-sided. The main hard and fast rule is that music must be a driving force behind your romance, and serve to bring your pairing together. The rules, thus, are:

- At least one scene must be set in a concert hall, theatre, or other place of performance.
- Your plot must be a love story, of some kind. This is open for interpretation however you want, and may be innocuous and sweet or dramatic and dark. Pick your poison.
- Music must be a driving force behind the relationship. One member (or both) of your pairing may be a musician, but this is optional. Work it in however you like.
- The romance, by the end of the story, must be consummated in some manner. Again, this consummation is up to you, and can be described in as little or as much detail as your heart desires.
- Although the word count is up to you, make it brief enough to be read in one reading.
- Good luck!

Mission Statement

Echo of the Muse is a community that strives to motivate authors (primarily of original fiction) into more productive and higher quality writing, by shared challenges and discussions. This site is eventually going to partnered with a portal hosted on aetherea.net consisting of links to high-quality web-published fiction. We accept all sorts of authors, and the themes we're looking for can best be described as "vivid", "thought-provoking", and "dark."

This community is open to all, and can be used to post and link to your writing. There will be weekly and monthly challenges, open to all members, based on a certain theme. These challenges can (unless specified) be answered with a story set in this world, an alternate universe of your own making, or an alternate universe borrowed from another for inspiration. Please feel free to plug out this community, although we're striving for a small, "writer's group" feel rather than something huge and intimidating.

Welcome to Echo of the Muse -- a writing community for the writer who doesn't write.
